BEHIND THE SONG
Release date: August 2, 2020
“WHAT THE HERD HATES MOST IS THE ONE WHO THINKS DIFFERENTLY; IT IS NOT SO MUCH THE OPINION ITSELF, BUT THE AUDACITY OF WANTING TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES, SOMETHING THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO.“
— Arthur Schopenhauer
After more than a year of searching for the right musical direction, Xtravagant released a single ’Kto Povedal?’ (eng. ’Who Said So?’) about his audacity to think for himself while many people can’t. “I wanted to point out that, at the end of the day, after many intended suggestions and unsolicited advice from others, it only matters how I perceive my life and that only I can control my final decisions and actions.”, he explains.
Released with a video inspired by the well-known video for Robbie Williams‘ hit ’Bodies’, this song marks the first origin of Xtravagant as a pop artist thanks to its parlando verses, a pop chorus with singing vocals, and a soft synth-wave sound.
This single release contains an unfinished demo track as the co-producing partner could no longer provide a professional handle on more pop manufacturing standards. As a result, Xtravagant had no choice but to quit this collaboration. Despite the departure, he decided to release one unfinished work as a bonus track.
The official Xtravagant’s statement: “It’s ridiculous how things can turn out. At the very start, we had an agreement about my vision of pushing the levels higher in the future, and the co-producer guaranteed such a service. I’m grateful for all the hip-hop stuff I’ve done in collaboration with him. But it was supposed to be my stepping-stone for the pop thing, and he knew it. For me, it was just about my progress, a natural improving feature of an artist’s experience. I started to compose my own pop chords, I was up to move forward with my music, performance, and sound, but he was suddenly holding me back. His inability and unwillingness to work as hard as I was up to had made me leave. So, I had to quit to continue.“
